The Liverpool Plains and Northern Inland region contains some of the most productive agricultural land in Australia. The black cracking soils of the Liverpool Plains — between Quirindi and Gunnedah — are nationally recognised for their productivity: wheat, canola, chickpeas, sorghum, and cotton all perform at high levels. Land prices reflect this productivity, and the region supports a significant base of large-scale commercial cropping operations. Beef cattle are carried across the region, particularly on the lighter country to the north and west.
